My Digital Dash: Top 10 Life Hack Apps
In 2016, the life of an entrepreneur or venture capitalist features many of the same ups and downs one faced in those roles thirty years ago. However, there are so many mobile apps now that help with tracking progress, becoming healthier (both mentally & physically), staying informed, and scheduling tasks. Below are a few app recommendations I recently sent some founders who were wondering what tools I use to hack my life.
Tracking Progress
Way of Life App — Cool app that allows you to track important tasks that you want to accomplish each day. Tasks could include exercising, meditating, reading, or whatever you like. The free version of the app allows you to track 3 specific tasks.
Momentum — This is a cool extension that allows you to create to-do lists and keeps you always focused on the natural beauty of landscapes. You have to check it to get what I mean.
Physical & Mental Health
Headspace — I’m a huge proponent of this mental health app that provides many guided meditations. I would suggest starting with the free app version that provides 30 ten-minute guided meditations. It’s amazing how starting out your day with this relaxed approached gives your mind the capacity to take on the goals of the day!
Sworkit — Cool fitness app that provides you with various workout routines depending on your goal of strength training, cardio, stretching, yoga, etc. If you are like me I usually get bored of my fitness routine and have no idea what to do if I have a limited amount of time. Sworkit is the solution.
Pray As You Go — I found this app after searching for a guided prayer app. After many trials and errors, this app gave me everything I needed. It provides an audio scripture devotion and Christian hymns that enable me to maximize time for a very important act in my life.
Staying Informed
Pocket — Before this app, I hated having to keep tabs up in my internet browser so I could remember to read certain articles. Now I don’t have to do that because I can save any interesting web page in my Pocket.
Nuzzel — I don’t get to look at twitter all the time to see what is going on the fields of VC, edtech or fintech. However, this app aggregates the most popular articles that were shared on twitter based on who you follow. This way you are always in the know!
Scheduling Content, Emails, & Meetings
Crowdfire’s Publish — I usually read interesting articles on my focus areas in one setting and then the articles I feel that are most interesting or that I have an opinion on I like to tweet out. However, I don’t want to go on a twitterstorm so I space them out by using this app’s “best time” feature. This allows my twitter account to have constant content spread over a longer period of time.
Boomerang — If you are like me sometimes you work at late hours and are setting up emails for the next day. I always felt conflicted whether I should send the email at 2am or wait until the next day where I may forget to send the email entirely. This app solves that problem. Instead of being that weirdo or that slacker who forgot to send an important email use boomerang extension to program when you want to sent emails. You can send emails a day, week, month, or year later.
Calendly — One of the difficulties with setting up meetings through emails is that things could change very quickly in your schedule and you could double book. Calendly solves this problem and reduces scheduling meetings from a thread of emails to just one email.
